1986 GLHS #30 (Pocket Rocket):
In 1986, Carroll Shelby wanted to build an affordable high powered family car much like he did in 1965 with the Shelby. He took an Dodge Omni, beefed up the suspension, put an intercooler on the 2.2 liter engine, and made some styling modifications to the interior and exterior. This little dynamo out performed the Mustang 5.0's, the Corvettes, and just about anything thrown at in 1986. It even outran a 1965 Shelby at Lime Rock as can be seen on the cover of the Hot Rod magazine shown below. With only 500 being produced, it surely earned its reputation of being the "pocket rocket. What does the GLHS stand for -- Goes Like Hell Shelby...As of April 2006...the car was sold back to the original owner....
